I find myself empathizing with both sides of the Shawn Hornsby debate. Maybe it was "Stockholm" Syndrome. Maybe it was fear and intimidation that caused a kid to be taken away from his home for 4 years. Only to be found by a true miracle. That won't happen much again in our lifetimes.
I don't want to join that particular debate.
I want to stop what happened in the first place. I do not want the aftermath to be analyzed... by well... analysts.
The first thing I think we should teach our kids (or inmy case... my grandkids) is to say this... " Mister. The first chance I get.... I am calling Home. If I can't call... I'll write. If I can't write... I''ll crawl. But rest assured I am contacting Home.. the first chance I get."
"I won't be calling or writing.. or crawling to... Stockholm. I will be contacting Home."
Now Mister... if you want to take me knowing my ground rules... then go ahead.
My Home... where I wish to be... will take care of you... no matter what happens to me. They will hunt you to eternity.
That's why I was taught to call Home first. The first chance I get.
"Your choice, Mister."
If you don't let me go... people will be calling 911. And they will be talking about it on TV. If that is what you wanted with me... then you get will it.
But my Home will get you. And you will not be missed.
